Ali Williams joins Nottingham Rugby board

All Blacks World Cup winning lock Ali Williams has been appointed to the Nottingham Rugby Board.

Williams spent a month playing for the Green & Whites earlier this year, when he played four matches for the side, before returning to New Zealand to rejoin the Blues for the Super Rugby season and ultimately claim his World Cup winning medal with the All Blacks.

After being sidelined for two years with career threatening Achilles tendon injuries, Ali joined Nottingham to begin his mental and physical comeback to top flight rugby with the aim of making it into the All Blacks World Cup squad. He did just that, playing in the final and is keen to show his gratitude for what he described as being ‘key to his return’ to the sport.

Ali commented: “Nottingham played a huge part in my return to rugby and I owe them a lot. I am a huge supporter of the club and after starting me off on the road to recovery I feel a real affinity with the people at Nottingham Rugby and want to repay the favour”.

The former Nottingham Rugby player will take up a position on the Board of Directors, offering an advisory role to the club, helping to strengthen the pathway at Nottingham for players from the Southern Hemisphere.

Ali added: “Nottingham’s game is constantly improving and the team are on the rise. I hope to bring my playing experiences and knowledge of worldwide rugby to the club, ensuring the game continues to be the best it can be and hopefully help the club on its way to the Premiership”.
